| TOUR OF THE STARS | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Perched on a ridgetop at the leeward side of the Waianae Mountains, the roll-off roof observatory offers expansive views of the Milky Way galaxy and its glorious star fields, local star systems and nebulas, and our solar system neighbors. At an elevation of 1,100 feet above sea level, the telescopes enjoy cool surroundings high above the leeward plains. To the north and west are preservations lands with unpolluted dark skies. The Nature Conservancy's Honouliuli wildlife preserve is adjacent to the northeast. To the east and south are the beautiful Honolulu city lights some 25 miles beyond. Witness a breath-taking moonrise over Waikiki from this prime observing platform. Limiting visible magnitude at zenith is routinely at 5.5. Astro Tours Hawaii has been providing personal stargazing tours to visitors and local residents since 1994. |

The main scopes are precision driven by a Gemini telescope controller coupled with a Titan mount by Losmandy and communicates with Software Bisque's TheSky. The Mak-Cass offers esquisite views of the planets and multiple star systems in vivid details. Open star clusters take on an 3-D like appearance when viewed with the Oberwerk large inoculars. Also included for special events and star parties is a computer controlled 10" SCT on a german equatorial mount and an 80mm StellarVue refractor. Several quality binoculars round out the wide field, low power views of the heavens. |
